Body Found On Natchez Trace Parkway

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Firefighters in Williamson County discovered a body while battling a fire on the Natchez Trace Parkway.

The discovery occurred north of the Highway 96 bridge.

Firefighters were dispatched to put out a brush fire Monday night. But Tuesday morning, firefighters found the burned body of a man near a parking area off the parkway.

An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday.

If anyone knows of a young man with a tattoo on his right shoulder who is missing, they should call the Williamson County Sheriff's Office.

The Natchez Trace Park runs through Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi. It is part of the National Park Service.

Park rangers blocked off an area to tourists as they investigated.

Investigators believe someone burned the victim at the park. It was unclear if the victim was deceased by the time firefighters arrived.

Investigators have contacted Metro Police to check their missing person reports. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are assisting the sheriff's office in the investigation.
