Fisk: Remove NM O'Keeffe Museum From Art Dispute

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Fisk University wants the Tennessee Court of Appeals to declare that a museum that represents the estate of late artist Georgia O'Keeffe has no right to an art collection donated to the school in 1949.

A lower court judge had ruled that the museum in Santa Fe, N.M., would be in line to receive the entire 101-piece collection if the historically black university in Nashville defaulted on gift conditions set by O'Keeffe.

Those include that the school keep the entire collection on display and not sell any of the paintings.

In oral arguments before a three-judge panel on Wednesday, Fisk also said it wants to revive a $30 million deal to sell an equal stake in the collection to an Arkansas museum.
