Businesses: Titans Loss Hurts Bottom Line

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Titans loss to the Baltimore Ravens Saturday is more than just disappointing, but bad for business, according to some downtown Nashville merchants.

Businesses along the Nashville's Lower Broadway district are usually packed with football fans when the Titans have home playoff games.

Tootsie's Orchid Lounge owner Steve Smith said they were loaded with Ravens fans and expected Steelers fan to fill Music City. But the Titans loss means that that won't happen.

Smith said this week business was good leading up to the playoff game and "next week, we could've done a better business."

Sports Season, a shop that sells sports merchandise, slashed 25 percent off Titans gear.  Employees said if the Titans were still playing, it'd be one of their biggest selling weeks in history.

The same team that knocked the Titans out of the Super Bowl hunt in 2000 did it again.

Fans such as Kelly Wilson said it's getting old.

"It was upsetting," Wilson said. "We should've won."

Retailers said they had merchandise touting the Titans as AFC Champs ready to order if the team had beaten the Ravens and the Steelers this upcoming weekend.  But that order has now been canceled.
