(AP) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The winter storm that coated Tennessee with snow and ice has eased up, but thousands may be without power for days.
Gibson Electric Membership Corp. spokeswoman Rita Alexander said about 11,500 customers, mostly in Lake and Obion counties, were still without power Wendesday evening.
Volunteers from the Nashville Area Red Cross are taking 80 cots, 600 hot meals and 160 blankets to two shelters in northwest Tennessee after the harsh weather knocked out power in several counties.
Alexander said the outages could last several days because of the thick layers of ice coating power lines and knocking down tree limbs.
The National Weather Service said that precipitation has subsided but issued warnings in central Tennesse for flooding.
