Open Air Mall Coming To Oak Grove

OAK GROVE, Ky. - A California investor will bankroll $150 million for a new mall in Kentucky's Christian County.

Mayor Dan Potter says the town has snagged the biggest retail development the area has ever seen.

"There is a mall, I can't tell you many details of it," said Potter "[The investor] says it's going to be the most beautiful mall in America and I believe her."

It'll be an open air type mall with 150 stores.

"Each shop will be designed individually," said Potter.

Crews have already begun moving dirt to clear the land just off Interstate 24 on State Highway 41-A.

The location sits strategically close to the post at Fort Campbell. Potter said the project will happen despite the sagging economy.

"How lucky can you be? We wanted to grow, but we were wondering ‘Well, how can you grow if we're in a recession?' Well this solved the problem," said Potter.

Groundbreaking for the new mall will happen around the end of February. Potter said more information about exactly what stores will open at the mall would be released then.

The mall is expected to open in 2011.
