Drive-By Shooting Cost Teenage Girl Her Life

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Loren Johnson was sitting in her bedroom when police said stray bullets aimed at someone else came through the walls of her house and killed her.

Loren's mother said too many innocent people are being affected by deadly acts of violence.

"If you'd met her she would make you smile because she had a bashfulness about her," said family friend, Carol Bene'.

Saturday evening was supposed to be a day of celebration because Loren passed the 11th grade.

"We're talking about a young lady who is truly an angle," said Bene'.

Loren was hit by a bullet fired in a drive-by outside her North Nashville home on Chesapeake Drive while she was reading a book.
Police Say Shots Were Not Meant for Teen Girl

"Her mother got up to run after her. She slide in her blood and then she slide to get up and get Loren. Loren then collapsed in her arms. She died in her mother's arms right there," said Bene'.

Bene' called the Johnson home to hear Loren's mother in a panic.

"She said, 'they killed my baby, they killed my baby.' I said who? She said, 'I don't know,'" said Bene'.

The bullet pierced her heart, and was the latest string of violent crimes where teens were both the victims and the suspects.

"This has to stop," said Bene'. "It has totally put fear in people's hearts, but we are rising to believing that Christ will get us through this."

The family said they have one thing to say to those involved in the crime.

"We pray for them. We pray for their families because this affects our whole community in all walks of life," said Bene'.

Police said the intended target was not Loren or anyone who lived in her home.

If you would like to help the family of Loren Johnson a memorial fun was set up at any Regions Bank.
