Harold Ford Jr. To Teach At University Of Texas

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Former Congressman Harold Ford Jr. of Memphis has been named as a visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

Ford's appointment to the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs is the latest in a growing resume that includes teaching at Vanderbilt University, leading the Democratic Leadership Council and serving as a vice president at investment firm Merrill Lynch.

At Texas, the former five-term congressman will conduct classes for the American Politics and Policy Seminars as the Barbara Jordan Visiting Professor, named after the first black woman from the South to be elected to the United States Congress.

Last year, Ford lost a close race for the U.S. Senate in Tennessee to Republican Bob Corker.
