HDTV's Widescreen Format

There is a dramatic difference between a standard resolution, analog picture and an HD picture. The standard definition picture is in a 4x3 ratio... more square and is made up of about 300,000 pixels (rectangles of light that make up your television picture). The much wider high definition picture is in a 16x9 ratio that is more like the way human vision sees the world. And more like a movie screen. HD is made up of over 2 million pixels. A huge difference in detail -- nearly 7 times as much.

The image below is in 4:3 aspect ratio. Move your mouse over the image to see how much more picture is available in HDTV's widescreen format.
