Family Embraces ‘Tougher' Life

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A Nashville family isn't trying to get around these economic tough times; they're moving closer to them by abandoning suburban life.

The Olivers are moving to the country of Malawi in the name of missionary work. Jeff and Kara Oliver will be out of their Crieve Hall home in three days.

"Several doors just kept opening, and directions started pointing to Malawi," said Kara Oliver.

Malawi is a country in South- Central Africa where Madonna adopted avid Banda not long ago.

The place the Olivers feel led to while at the same time saying goodbye to his six figure salary.

"I do make a great salary, but that salary comes with sacrifices. I'm always connected," said Jeff Oliver.

But at times, his wife admits he's seemingly distant. The Olivers are embracing an impoverished life when most in this country are struggling to avoid it. They're taking their children as well, ages nine and three.

The Olives claim they will return with richer lives.

Jeff Oliver is director of technology at KROLL in Nashville, a company that does background checks, among other things.

Kara Oliver is a freelance writer who plans to blog about her family's year-long commitment in Malawi which begins July 6th.
