Jeffrey BeatyNASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police have made an arrest after a man was shot to death in the parking lot of a south Nashville apartment complex Sunday night.
Monday police charged 39-year-old Raymond Swett, Jr. with criminal homicide. He is also charged with attempted criminal homicide for attacking the victim, Jeffrey Beaty's, estranged wife, Jessica Cain.
Officials said emergency dispatchers got a call a disturbance at the Pagoda Apartments on Welch Road around 11:30 p.m. Callers said a woman had been assaulted.
When police arrived on scene, witnessed said they had found Jeffrey Beaty's body lying in the parking lot.
Investigators believed that Cain and Swett got into a dispute over a drug deal. Police said Swett left the apartment complex and came back a short time later and beat Cain.
Neighbors alerted Beaty of the alleged assault, and Beaty went out to the parking lot where police said Swett shot him.
"It would lead us to believe that the suspects and the victims are possibly known to one another in this particular case. Therefore, we do not feel this is a random act of violence at this particular time," said Commander Mike Alexander with the Metro Nashville Police Department.
Swett is being held without bail pending a hearing. Cain was treated and released at a local hospital.
