Hundreds Of Unsolved Cold Cases Remain In Metro

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The break in the Marcia Trimble case seemed to come out of the blue, so no one knows when and where the next break will come on the hundreds of other unsolved cold cases.

Two women hope their cases are solved next. The verdict in the Marcia Trimble murder trial gave them hope.

Gail Chilton and Connie Williams are part of an exclusive club, a cold case club they would just as soon not be a part of.

"I look at her [Virginia Trimble] now and it's like she can go home and she can absolutely rest tonight not having that question in her mind," said Chilton.

Someone killed their loved ones and so far they have gotten away with it. Chilton's daughter Melissa was one of two girls killed 13 years ago at Exotic Tan.

"We have the same detectives that solved Marcia Trimble's case and to me that's like when you've got a good team that makes us feel like we're in good hands," said Chilton.

Williams's brother was shot and killed walking down I-40 after his truck broke down.

"Originally it was reported as a hit and run," said Williams.

Metro cold case detectives have reviewed nearly 350 cases. They still have more than 100 to go.

"We take every homicide very seriously," said Metro police officer Pat Taylor. "Of course technology is our biggest factor right now. If it weren't for the new DNA analysis we'd still be struggling with Marcia Trimble."

Cold case detectives at the Metro police department have solved 33 cases in just over four years.

Lieutenant Taylor said they are close to solving many other cases. In each situation they know who was involved. They just need a little more evidence to make an arrest.
