NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro say two men were hospitalized after shooting each other during an early morning argument.
Demarshea Sweatt, age 25, apparently went with a group of friends to a home Fred Rogers Place and William Edmonson Street near downtown Nashville around 12:30 a.m. Friday.
Police said a confronation erupted between Sweatt and a 22-year-old man who lives in the neighborhood. The fight escalated with both men firing shots at each other. Both were hit.
Sweatt was hit in the hip and taken to Centennial Hospital by his friends.
Police were called to the scene and found the other man outside one of the houses. He had been shot in the leg, and was transported by ground to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in serious condition.
A weapon was recovered at the scene.
When police learned that Sweatt was also at a Nashville hospital being treated for gunshot wounds, they were suspicious that the two men's injuries could be related.
Investigators were working to determine the nature of the argument. They believed drugs or possible gang activity could have been a factor.
"A lot of times when its possibly drug or gang related, the individuals involved won't give us all the information pertinent to conducting investigations," said Detective Jill Weaver with the Metro Nashville Police Department.
Both were expected to recover from their injuries.
Police said Sweatt had at least three outstanding warrants for his arrest. No word on any possible charges against either men.
