Congressman Gordon Held Health Care Reform Meeting

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Close to 1,000 people packed a Murfreesboro theater for a town hall forum on health care reform. Amid the shouting and screaming, Congressman Bart Gordon tried to get his points across.

The forum was held on Middle Tennessee State University's campus on Monday night. Boos rang down on Congressman Gordon as he entered the stage.

"What I'm trying to explain to you is this: there is no final bill. I will not vote for a bill that increases the deficit a nickel.  As a matter of fact, I want to see it start to lower the deficit," said Gordon.

Nothing the Congressman said seemed to calm the crowd. ‘Keep government out of our health care' was a message repeated time and time again.

There were pockets of support for healthcare reform and moments where Gordon got to get his points across.

"You should be able to choose the doctor that you want. I do not want to enforce anyone to enroll in a so-called government option," said Gordon.

Two more town hall debates will take place Wednesday. Representative Gordon is holding another one in Sumner County, and Senator Bob Corker will hold one in Murfreesboro.
