Police: Mom Dies From Injuries Inflicted By Son

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - An 81-year-old woman passed away Wednesday from injuries police said she sustained at the hands of her son.

Shortly after Loraine VanBlarcom woke up on Oct. 14, police said her son, Roger VanBlarcom, asked her if she wanted to go to heaven.

She said he began beating her with his fists and then the bat. Officers also said she told them, her son said she was being punished for the way he was treated as a child.

Police arrested Roger a week ago and charged him with attempted first-degree murder. His charges have been upgraded to first-degree murder.

He is jailed with bond set at $750,000.
