(AP) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee running back Chris Johnson's franchise rushing performance has earned him honors as the AFC offensive player of the week, the first of his short career.
Johnson ran for 228 yards in last week's 30-13 win over Jacksonville, and he also ran 52 and 89 yards for touchdowns. He topped the mark of 216 yards previously matched by Billy Cannon and Eddie George.
The Tennessee back leads the NFL with 824 yards rushing. He was the only rookie voted to the AFC Pro Bowl team last year.
He is the first Tennessee player honored since Chris Hope was the AFC defensive player of the week after a Week 8 victory over Indianapolis last season.
