GREENBRIER, Tenn. - Robertson County investigators believe someone set a Greenbrier home on fire, where a body was later found.
The fire started around 10:00 a.m. Monday at 3377 Possum Trot Rd. Police said someone spotted a maroon-colored Mercury Marquis leaving the home while it was on fire.
Shortly after, White House police arrested a man driving the car at the Precision Car Wash on Highway 76, just a few miles from the home.
They're calling the driver a person of interest, and confirmed he is a registered sex offender from Cottontown.
One neighbor said she spotted him sitting in his car across from the home before the fire started.
"We're investigating it as arson and a homicide until we find otherwise," said Lt. Don Bennett, a detective with the Robertson County Sheriff's department.
Neighbors said they didn't know the family who lived in the home that caught fire very well, and they can not identify with their loss.
"I can't imagine anything more horrible than finding out that someone possibly has died in your house and then everything that you own is gone,” said neighbor Todd Bridges. “It's pretty horrible."
Investigators have not identified the body, and no charges have been filed.
