NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville's newest skyscraper will look different on Sunday. Part of downtown will have to be evacuated and streets shut down as crews airlift two massive Pinnacle Tower signs into place.
The 29-story Pinnacle Tower is located on 3rd Avenue South near Broadway. The construction on the building began in early 2008.
"Pinnacle has a nice ring to it," said Nashville resident Ian Washington.
One of the final projects is the installation of two 3,500 pound Pinnacle signs.
"It's not anything that happens overnight," said Jim Webster of High Angle Services. "It's a great deal of work and planning that goes into something like this."
On Friday, High Angle crew members were busy installing steel structures which will support the signs.
Early Sunday morning, a helicopter will raise each sign into position. Crews on the roof will attach one sign to the building's east side and the other to the building's west side.
Webster said Sunday's may take as little as 30 minutes to complete the project. They will work under most weather conditions except strong winds and lighting.
Sunday's street closures include portions of 2nd and 3rd Avenue South, Almond Street, Demonbreaun, and the Shelby Street Bridge. 3rd Avenue North, Charlotte Avenue to Union, and Deaderick Street will also be shut down.
Tenants will begin moving in after Thanksgiving.
