Ophelia Ford Could Miss Entire Legislative Session
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Family members of state Sen. Ophelia Ford said the Memphis Democrat has suffered complications from an unspecified surgical procedure and could miss the entire legislative session.
Democratic Senate Minority Leader Jim Kyle of Memphis informed his colleagues about Ford's health on the Senate floor Thursday. He said Ford's family told him her illness is severe and that she's not expected to return "anytime in the near future."
Ford, who is 59, missed the Legislature's special session on education reform last month due to flu like symptoms that resulted in her being admitted to a Memphis hospital.
Ford missed most of the 2007 legislative session because of what she called a "chronic anemia" illness that involved periodic hospital admissions.
