NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Crematory operators would have a legal process to dispose of unclaimed remains under legislation unanimously passed by the Senate.
The measure sponsored by Sen. Steve Southerland, R-Morristown, was approved on Monday. The companion bill has yet to be heard by the House Commerce Committee.
Southerland said the legislation would allow crematories to either bury the remains or place them in a mausoleum if unclaimed after 180 days. He said a record would be kept of the remains.
