Road Workers Hospitalized After Electric Shock

PORTLAND, Tenn. – At least two road construction workers have been injured by electric shock in Sumner County.

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 109 near the Highway 76 intersection, south of Portland and just outside Fountain Head, Tennessee.

Road crews in the area have been expanding Highway 109 into multiple lanes. It was unknown if the victims were shocked by an electrical source in the ground or overhead.

A medical helicopter was dispatched to the area, but was called back due to weather conditions in the area. Two ambulances were then dispatched to the scene.

The condition of the victims was unknown.
