Cumberland River Drowning Victim Identified

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A teenager reported missing while swimming in the Cumberland River in West Nashville Wednesday night was found dead. Police have identified him as Jamarcus Sneed.

The 18-year-old was reported missing just around 7:30 p.m. at Riverbend Apartments on Cabot Drive. The teen was swimming near some boats with three others when he noticed he was in trouble. His friends said he called for help and went under.

Divers were called to the scene to search the water and his body was found just after 9:00 p.m.

"One thing we did have from witnesses is a really good last seen point. This was a small cove area in front of a private residence dock, but the area behind it was very steep so it was a little bit rough to get to," said Amanda Sluss of the Office of Emergency Management.

Sneed was reported to be taken to the hospital, but police later confirmed that he had died.
