NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A grand jury has indicted former Tennessee medical examiner Dr. Bruce Levy on drug charges.
Dr. Levy is charged with one count of possession of marijuana. He pleaded not guilty in a Mississippi courtroom on Tuesday.
He will face trial in January 2011.
Levy was arrested in March after agents with Mississippi's Bureau of Narcotics made a controlled delivery of a FedEx package containing marijuana to a hotel outside of Jackson, Miss. The package contained more than 30 grams, which sources said is the threshold for felony charges.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said that several more small containers of marijuana were found during a search of Levy's hotel room.
Levy took over control of Metro Nashville's medical examiners office under a private contract in July 1997. He was appointed state medical examiner in March 1998.
He was fired from the medical examiner's office after his arrest.
