GM Plant Manager Responds To Passing On Jobs

Posted:

SPRING HILL, Tenn. - The plant manager at the Spring Hill GM plant has responded to allegations that she passed on a bid that would have brought 50 new jobs.

The claims came from a leak in a UAW newsletter.

Manager Terri Burden responded with a statement through a GM spokesperson:

"My leadership team and I make decisions based on the long-term interest of the Spring Hill site, its employees, and General Motors. Many factors go into making product-related manufacturing decisions, and for competitive reasons, we don't share those details publicly. I absolutely have the interest of my employees at heart, as well as that of the company, with every decision I make. Spring Hill will continue to be considered for future work based on our overall competitiveness and GM's continuing success in the market."

General Motors reportedly offered the jobs to the Spring Hill plant. The work detail would have entailed building interior door panels for Buick and GMC sport utility vehicles.

A union insider said the work could have lasted for at least two years, and could have opened the door for future job opportunities.
