
Victim, Jason Felts of Manchester
Police said the driver of an SUV crashed into a passenger car at the intersection of Nissan Parkway and Enon Springs Road.
The driver of the passenger car was killed. Two other people in the car were hospitalized with injuries.SMYRNA, Tenn. - One person was killed and two others were hospitalized after they were hit by a man who police say was trying to run from them in Rutherford County.
The incident happened early Thursday morning in Smyrna, near the Nissan Plant.
An officer pulled over 24-year-old Mathew Holland driving an SUV during a routine stop. Police said as the officer approached the vehicle, he sped off.
After a brief chase, the SUV slammed into another car on Nissan Parkway and Enon Springs Road.
The driver of that car, 23 year old Jason Felts of Manchester, was killed. Two of Felt's passengers were taken to the hospital with injuries. A third passenger was not hurt.
The THP said Holland had two prior DUI arrests, and never should have been on the road.
Holland is now charged with the following charges:
Holland is being held in the Rutherford County Jail.
"There's no reason for someone to put others in peril, let alone themselves," Smyrna Police Chief Mike Beach said.
