Al Gore's Documentary Wins Oscar Gold

(AP) LOS ANGELES - Former Vice President and Tennessee Senator Al Gore has an Oscar.

"An Inconvenient Truth" - which began as Gore's PowerPoint presentation on global warming - won Best Documentary and Best Song at the Academy Awards presentation last night in Los Angeles.

Gore used the Oscar win not to further his political career but to boost his campaign to find solutions for global warming and other environmental problems.

He said the issues aren't political, but moral.

The film's director says Gore's work to raise awareness about global warming inspired him.

Earlier in the evening, Gore and actor Leonardo DiCaprio talked about a series of effort by the Academy to make this year's awards show more environment-friendly.

Gore pulled out an envelope after DiCaprio asked if he had any other "major announcements" to make and launched into a speech, only to be drowned out by the music that hustles speakers off the stage.

Backstage, Gore put speculation to rest, saying he does not have plans to become a candidate for office again.
