According to the National Weather Service it's getting even drier outside. Drought conditions across much of Middle Tennessee have worsened especially across the south central portions of the state.
Last week just ten percent of the state was classified as being in an extreme drought, this week it's up to 25 percent of the state. Areas in the extreme region include Lawrenceburg, Shelbyville, and Tullahoma.
Nashville is in the severe category with 19 consecutive days without measurable rain. The percentage of the state in severe drought has gone from 46 to 66 percent in the last week.
Moderate to severe drought conditions continue throughout the rest of Tennessee. Severe drought means agricultural losses may occur and risk of fire is high. Extreme drought, the highest level of concern, means farmers may face major agricultural losses and water shortages will increase.
Eastern Kentucky has also been placed in the severe drought category. The lack of rain combined with above average temperatures has left the rest of Kentucky in a drought described as "moderate."
