Bridge Repairs Halted By Lack Of Funds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nearly 170 Middle Tennessee bridges received inspection ratings lower than the Minneapolis bridge, and repairs haven't even begun on one of the mid state's worst rated bridges, Dickerson Road over Mansker Creek.

TDOT said they understand the importance of replacing aging bridges, but they're confident in the safety of the bridges. Currently, TDOT has no immediate plans to close them.

TDOT also said money shortages have slowed the pace of improvements to more than 200 bridges labeled "structurally deficient" in the Midstate.

Inspection reports of bridges with the lowest safety ratings show corrosion of steel beams, sagging timber and cracks or dips in the asphalt.

TDOT did mention replacing the bridge on North Main Street in Goodlettsville just off Interstate 65, in the next few years.

TDOT rated that Davidson County bridge the worst in the county with 23,000 cars passing over it each day.

TDOT said it will cost more than $3 million to replace.
