DUI Lands Hockey Star Behind Bars

David Legwand David Legwand

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A Nashville Predator is in trouble with the law, charged with drinking and driving. David Legwand was arrested last weekend, but he is expected to be on the ice later this Saturday.

David Legwand was the first ever draft pick, and the proud possessor of a brand new, $27 million, six-year deal. However, he's facing some serious charges.

David Legwand told the arresting officer last weekend he had gone to a Brad Paisley concert and had one beer. Legwand then later admitted he drank two glasses of wine at dinner, then two large glasses of beer at the concert.

According to a state arrest warrant obtained by NewsChannel 5, the 27-year-old Nashville Predator was going 51 in a 35 mile an hour zone last Friday night.

His eyes were bloodshot and watery, and his speech was slurred. Legwand was stopped by the police just south of downtown, on 8th Avenue South, near South Street.

There, according to the report, Legwand was unsteady on his feet during a field sobriety test and swayed back and forth. Legwand refused a breathalyzer test, and told the officer, according to the report, "I don't want to take it and register a .09 or something."

The legal limit being is .08.

Legwand was booked in the Davidson County jail, and he was charged with DUI and implied consent.

David Legwand was let go from jail under "pre-trial release." He paid no bond on a promise he will show up on his court date.
