Nashville's Fireworks Stolen Night Before Show

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Metro police are investigating the theft of fireworks from the city's planned Fourth of July fireworks show on the banks of the Cumberland River.

Police said three shells from a 4-inch long canister and two from a 5-inch-long canister were taken overnight Thursday. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is also investigating.

Police are concerned that someone could be injured if they attempted to activate the fireworks.

Heather Middleton, spokeswoman for the Nashville Convention and Visitors Bureau, said Friday the fireworks were replaced and shouldn't affect the show scheduled to begin around 9 p.m. Central.

The annual event attracts more than 100,000 spectators and will include this year performances by the Nashville Symphony Orchestra and Phil Vassar.
