Parolee Charged With Trying To Rob Hermitage Businesses

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A registered ex-con on parole for aggravated robbery is jailed once again after attempting to rob two Hermitage businesses Saturday night.

David Englebert of Mount Juliet entered the Subway at 5760 Old Hickory Boulevard, jumped the counter and held a female employee, according to a Metro police news release.

Police said the 37-year-old man pushed a male employee to the ground and demanded money.  He fled empty handed in a white Chevrolet pickup with a temporary tag.

Police said 10 minutes later, he tried to rob Papa Johns Pizza at 4442 Lebanon Pike.  The employees could not open the safe and so he fled empty handed to the truck.

Police said in both cases, he indicated he had a weapon.

One of the pizza delivery driver spotted his truck and called police, who stopped Englebert on Lebanon Pike.

Six people positively identified him as the robber.

Police charged him with two counts of attempted robbery, marijuana possession, driving on a suspended license, and an open container violation.

He was convicted of two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of attempted aggravated robbery in Nashville in 1998.  He also has a robbery conviction in Michigan and was to have been on parole until 2017.

His bond was set Saturday night at $304,000. A parole revocation warrant was expected to be filed against him by the state on Monday.
