Two Nashville Women Hit By Gunfire In Terrorist Attacks

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Thursday night a Nashville man rushed to the bed-side of his wife, who was injured in a terrorist attack!

Santos Lopez spent his Thanksgiving in airports catching an international flight to India. Lopez's wife Andi Varagona, a former country music producer, and her friend, a children's book author, were ambushed by gunmen in the city of Mumbai.

Lopez, a producer for CMT, said his wife was awake, alert and hopefully ready to come home soon.

"She's just in a lot of shock because one of her traveling companions, a man she has known for 17 years, was killed next to her," Lopez said.

Andi Varagona, who now goes by Rudrani Devi was in India for a two-week meditation retreat when she became victim in an apparently well thought out terrorist attack on westerners visiting the city of Mumbai.

Andi was staying at the Oberoi hotel, one of two Mumbai landmarks targeted Wednesday night by suspected terrorists. She was having dinner with traveling companions when gunmen entered and opened fire.

Lopez said his wife's group heard gunshots, started to escape and that's when they were hit.

Andi Varagona is a member of Synchronocity, which is a spiritual foundation with an international membership. She also runs Nashville's Devi Clinic, with a holistic healing approach, on 12th Avenue South.

Andi, born and raised in Oak Ridge, Tenn., made her mark in music city by working behind the scenes in video and production.

Lopez said he was especially indebted to Congressman Jim Cooper, of Nashville, for helping him get to India quickly. Lopez flew-out of Newark, N.J., and he should arrive at the Indian hospital to be with his wife by Friday night.

Lopez took with him the husband of the second Nashville victim, a children's author, whose name is yet to be released.
