A truck driver was killed when his tractor trailer veered off Interstate 65 South in Robertson County and crashed into a wooded area.

The incident happened just after 2 a.m. Wednesday in the southbound lanes at mile marker 115, located about ten miles from the Tennessee-Kentucky border.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed one person was killed. The cab of the truck was crushed by the impact. The semi was hauling metal pipes.

The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Tyrone McDonald, of Port Gibson, Mississippi.

Authorities said McDonald was wearing his seatbelt. Further details about the crash were not released.

The wreck caused a delay in the area. Highway 31 West was used as an alternative route.
