Thousands of dollars of expensive lawn care equipment went missing when thieves hooked up a trailer at a storage facility and drove off with it.
The heist was caught on camera inside a fenced in area at the CubeSmart Storage facility on South Church Street in Murfreesboro. Police thought it could have been related to a similar theft about a week earlier.
“It’s pretty heartbreaking that somebody can stoop that low to just nonchalantly go in there and take someone else’s property,” said Lance Sutton, the theft victim.
Sutton, who owns a lawn care business, said the thieves were able to get inside through the open front gate at CubeSmart.
He said it was only after his trailer was stolen that CubeSmart employees told him the gate had been broken -- and wide open -- for weeks.
NewsChannel 5 contacted the local storage facility and the regional manager for CubeSmart. They said they weren't allowed to comment on the situation, and they referred us to their corporate office.
NewsChannel 5 has yet to hear back from them.
