One person was killed in an early-morning crash on Interstate 840 in Williamson County.

Tennessee Highway Patrol officials said Erika Puffenbarger died in the crash that happened just before 2 a.m. Thursday at the Almaville Road exit at mile marker 45.

Investigators said she was traveling eastbound on 840 when she veered off the left side of the road, rolled and landed in the center median.

Puffenbarger was ejected onto the westbound lane and she was hit by an oncoming semi truck. She was not wearing a seat belt.

There were three children in the car as well: a 3-year-old boy, 10-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl. All three were injured, and the 3-year-old was the only child who was wearing a seat restraint, which the report said was not properly buckled.

Westbound lanes were shut down for hours while officials remained on the scene.
