Mayor Megan Barry encouraged people to go after their career dreams at the Annual Marketplace of Opportunities Business Luncheon.

NewsChannel 5's very own Vicky Yates emceed Wednesday's event at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel in Nashville.

The luncheon stressed the importance of supporting the community's minority businesses both large and small.

The event was sponsored by the TriState Minority Supplier Development Council (TriState MSDC) with the theme of “No Limits, Just Opportunities.”

Mayor Megan Barry was the keynote speaker. She stressed the importance of Tennessee's growing support for  minority businesses.

"Overall Metro government gave more than than $56 million in minority owned and women owned suppliers in the most recent fiscal year, and that was 9.2 percent of all of our procured tracked transactions and that's up over the previous year which was 8.1 percent," said Barry.

Even though numbers have increased, Mayor Barry said there is still more to be done to support minority businesses.
