Belmont University has celebrated a milestone in one of its construction projects.

The university took the final steps in a construction project on what will be its largest residence hall with a topping out ceremony Friday as the final gable was placed on the building.

The residence hall, which will house more than 600 students, has been dubbed "Tall Hall,” and appropriately so.

Based on overall elevation, the new building represents one of the highest points in Nashville.

University officials said the new dorm helps to keep students a part of the tight knit community on campus.

“This is our commitment to keeping our students close, keeping them as a part of the Belmont community," Bob Fisher said. "We find that so many of our students want to stay on campus."

Fisher said in the past there hasn't been enough room to keep upperclassmen on campus, so they have been encouraged to move off campus.

This new residence hall will allow them the space to stay. The project was set to be completed next August.
