Monday night, the Portland Board of Mayor and Alderman decided to postpone a decision that would potentially ban drag shows within the city's business districts.

Two rallies faced off at the Portland city council building before the meeting.

The topic was brought up when city council members passed a proposed ordinance on first reading attempting to prohibit drag shows by amending the definition of 'Adult Cabaret."

Several people attended Monday night's public meeting to voice their concerns of whether or not the performances should be allowed in the city.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee sent a letter to the mayor and Board of Alderman of Portland Friday, demanding that the city drop the proposal, calling it unconstitutional.  The Tennessee Equality Project sent a similar letter.
