A Metro high school band marched in a parade, got first place for best band performance, and didn't even know they were being judged.
The Hunters Lane High School band marched for the America's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Detroit.
The students were on their way back on a bus when their band director, William Brooks, got the email informing him his band had won.
He made the announcement to a sleepy group of students who immediately erupted in cheers.
“I don't think that we're better than everybody else. I just have a really, really hard-working group of kids, supportive parents, supportive administration,” Brooks said. “So I can't ask for much more than that. It's awesome.”
Brooks actually grew up in Detroit and performed in the parade when he was in middle school.
The Detroit weather was a bit colder than the students were used to, but it ended up being worth it.
