A teacher with Metro Nashville Public Schools has been arrested and charged with sexual battery by an authority figure.

Authorities said 40-year-old Jerome Nchiyako Dooley was arrested Wednesday for an incident stemming from September 19, 2016 involving a 17-year-old student.

MNPS officials said Dooley was a science teacher at Antioch High School. He allegedly touched the student inappropriately and grabbed his own private parts in front of the student.

Reports stated the student disclosed the incident to an assistant principal.

The following statement was released by MNPS on Wednesday afternoon:

“The person arrested this morning for sexual battery is an Antioch High School science teacher.

The individual was placed on administrative leave with pay in September 2016, as a result of allegations of touching a student on the buttocks and grabbing his crotch in front of the student. He has not been allowed on school grounds since he was placed on administrative leave.

In November 2016, the individual was suspended without pay pending further investigation by local authorities.”

Officials said anyone believing Dooley acted inappropriately toward them has been asked to call the Metro Nashville Police Department's Sex Crimes Unit at 615-862-7540.

Authorities said Dooley was free on a $50,000 bond.
