Sophisticated credit card skimmers were found on gas pumps in Franklin, according to police.

Officials with the Franklin Police Department have warned pay-at-the-pump customers about the skimmers found on two pumps by a manager at the Daily’s Shell in the 1300 block of Murfreesboro Road.

The skimmers were found Tuesday and could have been on the pumps for up to 12 days.

Authorities said the devices were a bit more elaborate than the false-faced devices that are often found.

These were placed inside the pumps behind a locked door, wiring them to the pump’s actual card reader, unlike typical ones which have been fitted over the card readers on the outside.

According to detectives, the suspect may have been accessing card information from a nearby parking lot by using a wireless receiver.

Officials said anyone who used a credit card to pay at the pump at this location should check the activity on their credit card. Any fraudulent purchases should be immediately reported to their credit card company and Franklin Police detectives at 615-794-2513.

Anyone with information on this crime has been urged to contact Franklin Police or Crime Stoppers at 615-794-4000.
