Emergency crews responded to the scene of a large fire at an apartment complex.

The fire started around 5 p.m. Sunday at the Carrington Park Apartments in the 2700 block of Rideout Lane in Murfreesboro.

Firefighters said the flames spread quickly and burned through the roof before they were able to extinguish it.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing large flames and heavy smoke coming from one of the buildings.

Reports stated the main part of the fire was out by 6 p.m., and crews remained on scene to put out hot spots.

"We will be here for quite a while," said Battalion Chief Daryl Alexander. "We want to make sure there are absolutely no more hot spots before we clear the scene."

All residents in Building K where the fire happened have been displaced. Officials said there were 12 units in the building, and they were all affected by either fire, smoke, or water.

Authorities said those displaced were being assisted with shelter.

Officials said the fire appeared to have started on the balcony of a third floor unit, but the cause of the fire remained under investigation.

No injuries were reported. Further details were not immediately released.
