Crews rescued dozens of dogs from a property in Houston County.

Authorities said around 35 or 40 dogs were rescued Sunday and taken to the Dickson County Humane Society. Officials said the incident was a bad hoarding situation.

Three of the animals that were extremely sick were taken to the Houston County Animal Clinic.

Photos of the dogs showed many of them were extremely thin.

A majority of the dogs will be adoptable soon. Authorities said around 20 or 25 percent of them will need longterm care before they can be adopted.

Officials said the Dickson County Humane Society has been in need of donations, especially after taking in the animals from Sunday’s rescue.

Items they’re in need of include cat and dog food, litter, paper towels, bleach, dial soap, animal shampoos, animal crates, cash donations and contributions that can be put toward the animals’ care.

All items can be dropped of at the Houston County Animal Clinic at 4050 West Main Street in Erin.
