Fatal Crash Shuts Down Part Of Charlotte Pike

At man was killed in four-vehicle crash on Charlotte Pike in Nashville.

The wreck happened just before 1p.m. Friday at the intersection with Old Charlotte Pike near Interstate 40, west of Nashville.

Police identified the victim as 45-year-old David Lee Black of White Bluff.

The preliminary investigation indicated the driver of a tanker truck, 37-year-old David Kopko of Hendersonville, was stopped at the red light in the left turn lane to I-40 East. 

Behind the tanker truck was a 2017 Ford Fusion, driven by 37-year-old Charles Kersh and behind the Ford Fusion was a 2017 Honda Civic, driven by 64-year-old Sanford Attis.

Black was driving a 2006 Ford Econoline van eastbound on Charlotte Pike when, for reasons unknown, the van entered the left turn lane where it sideswiped both cars on their passenger sides before colliding with the rear of the tanker truck. Black died at the scene.

No other drivers or passengers were injured in the crash.  All vehicle occupants were wearing their seatbelts. 

There was no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement in this fatal crash.
