Nearly 10,000 animals have been in need of a home each year in the Middle Tennessee area alone, and a recent event helped hundreds find their forever families.

Saturday, representatives said around 325 animals were adopted through the Mars Petcare fee-free adoption at Metro Animal Care and Control.

For the last two days, Mars Petcare has covered the cost of adoption fees at three local shelters, including MACC, the Nashville Humane Association, and the Williamson County Animal Shelter.

That allowed families to take home their new fur babies for free, like one couple who said they lost their precious beagle just months ago.

David and Lisa Brewer said they heard about the free adoption day and thought it was the perfect opportunity to add "Sam-Sam" to their family.

For those who missed out on the free adoption or just want to help out, Mars representatives said shelters like the three involved in the event have always been on the lookout for volunteers and donations.
