A man has died after being injured in an apparent shootout at an apartment complex south of downtown Nashville.

The incident happened Friday afternoon in the 1000 block of 2nd Avenue South.

Officials with Metro Nashville Police said 40-year-old Derrick Stafford was shot after a suspect, identified as 24-year-old Tyson Oglesby, knocked on the door of an apartment.

At some point, the two got into an argument, at which point Oglesby allegedly fired. Stafford and two women inside the apartment were struck.

Stafford was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Oglesby, who was arrested early Saturday morning, was jailed on three counts of attempted homicide. Police said those charges will be upgraded.

In a separate case, Oglesby has also been charged with engaging in cocaine conspiracy and possession of cocaine for resale.
