As Nashville has continued to expand, cranes have become part of our city, and with all of the construction, residents can be be sure a Metro police officer has been on the scene.

"We have a lot of police right now in the area because of all of the construction, but at night it seems like the police presence has gone away, at least in this area south of Broadway," said Tyler Timmons, Downtown Jimmy Johns Owner.

That is the concern for business owners in the SoBro area. Timmons said his employees don't always feel safe walking in the downtown area. Especially when someone was murdered just one street over.

"They have to walk to their cars, a lot of them have to walk all the way up to the bus station. Living with that, thinking about that as they walk in the dark, that's scary for anybody," said Timmons.

The Metro Nashville Police Department has increased officer presence in downtown, in an effort to cut down on the violent crimes. One manager said, the more police, the better his employees will feel.

"A lot of them can't park close to the restaurant, they have to travel a little bit. I think the increase in law enforcement will make them feel a little bit better," said Bryan Adams, Southern Steak and Oyster manager.

Even though the Southern Steak and Oyster has trained its employees to be aware of their surroundings, the police department has been wanting to make its presence known in downtown Nashville.
