Nashville Hiker Dies On Trail In Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Rangers with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park confirmed a hiker from Nashville has died on a trail.

Reports stated authorities responded to a call of a man in cardiac arrest on Alum Cave Trail around 10 a.m. Saturday.

According to officials, 47-year-old Phillip Basset Davenport, of Nashville, had been hiking down the trail from Mt. Le Conte with a group of friends. They had stayed the night before at Le Conte Lodge.

Authorities said Davenport passed out three miles from the trailhead.

Bystanders gave him CPR while medics responded to the scene. Davenport passed around around 11:15 a.m.
