An investigation remained ongoing after a 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the midtown area of Nashville.

The incident was reported near 18th Avenue North and Church Street just before 9:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials with Metro Nashville Police said they arrived on the scene and found Oshay Lamar Rutledge shot in the head. He had allegedly ran to a Hookah Bar on Church Street after being wounded.

Rutledge was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Crime scene investigators spent hours on the scene, counting shell casings and processing evidence. Police said the intersection would remain closed until at least 5 a.m.

No suspect description was available at this time.

Police said Rutledge was apparently targeted in the shooting. Potential drug involvement was a possible motive in the case.

This marked the third homicide near the city's center in just over a month.

On September 25, Teddy Grasset - a tourist from Los Angeles - was shot and killed while walking outside the Country Music Hall of Fame. Police recently arrested three people in that case.

One day later, a man was shot at the Batter's Box in the SoBro area of downtown Nashville.

No arrests have been made in that incident at this time.

Anyone with information has been asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
