A local contestant is headed to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.
Sydney Aslan, 14, from Brentwood will compete against kids from all over the nation.
Sydney told NewsChannel 5 it's hard work but also a huge honor. She gave a message to any other kids watching.
"I hope they would be inspired to try really hard and I hope they would realize that spelling is very fun and that they should try hard on whatever they do," said Sydney.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee starts Sunday and runs through Thursday, June 4.
