Mayor Megan Barry spotlighted the recent shooting at Nashville’s MTA bus station while at an event focused on empowering victims of violent crime.

The event was hosted by the "You Have the Power" organization, which works to educate, advocate, and empower victims and communities affected by violent crime.

Mayor Barry was a guest speaker for Tuesday’s event at City Winery. Afterward she talked with NewsChannel 5 about how she planned to stop youth violence in Nashville.

“We have spent the last 6 months looking at youth violence in our community -- we've had a youth violence summit -- that has come out with concrete recommendations about how to engage our youth. We really believe that if our youth are engaged in jobs, sports, activities -- that means they're not going to be involved in violence,” she said.

Mayor Barry also said that in times like these, groups like the "You Have The Power" organization, are very crucial.
